The Dance

Can't you feel my thoughts upon you

From beyond all time and space?

When they finally start to reach you

They can reach you anyplace.

I am the poet. I walk inside your dream.

I am the flame that burns in the heart of the night.

Out of the night and into your head.

All is occurring just as I said.

Listen, old friend, and mark my words well.

Into the shadows. Under the spell.

Out of the text and into the rhyme.

Into the Animal Soup of Time.

Out of the rat race. Into the trance.

Out of your dream and into the dance.

The master magician has reached a decision

Concerning our just reward.

"I will teach you the dance that spins through time

And you'll each be a cell in the body of my Lord."

You'll Dance in the Spell I weave and rhyme.

Perchance be a cell of my Lord in time.

The souls He juggled with spells he'd smuggled,

He'd riddle and diddle and quiz.

"Not my will vexes and charms and hexes.

Not even my will, but His."

Ye'll spin in the spells. Ye'll burn. Ye'll freeze.

Feel pin and hear bells if my Lord doth please.

Come and find peace

Within the mansion of my thoughts

And dwell among my dreams

As we float to the end

Of the endless stream of years.

Be still, young friend. Your quest at last

Has led you to the dance.

Your will has met one greater.

Never think this was by chance.

The mighty, spellbound legion

Journeys on through time and space.

That's their servant in the mirror.

Do you find him hard to face?

Whistle, my man, while still you can.

You pass damned near your tomb.

Many a dunce has thought "just once",

And then called forth his doom.

Foxy traveler, mystic pixie,

You are only whistling "Dixie".

I am strong. Strong.

And I know you know I know you,

How behind your mask of childhood

You were wrong. Wrong.

Now, hush, my own. My power's grown

And draws you like a flame.

The wave top's froth, the night's last moth,

And you were all fair game.

So, pause and reflect,

A thing I collect,

And I'll dry those last few tears.

You'll live in my dream as we sail the stream

To the end of the endless years.

Can't you feel my thoughts upon you

From beyond all time and space?

When they finally start to reach you

They can reach you anyplace.

I am the poet. I walk inside your dream.

I am the flame that burns in the heart of the night.

Listen, old friend, and mark my words well.

Into the shadows. Under the spell.

Out of the text and into the rhyme.

Into the animal soup of time.

Out of the rat race. Into the trance.

Out of your dream and into The Dance.
