Clean Slate
When you love somebody with all your might
Then your slate will be wiped clean.
Though the road is long and it's cold at night
And there's so much time between.
There's a chance it's only a Children's Tale,
Like the Faeries clad in green.
But if Galahad sought the Holy Grail,
Surely I can seek my Queen.
It is said: "The Age of the Gallant's dead",
And the rabble rule in their place, instead.
But that's surely not how it has to be
And it just won't make it for you and me.
When you see the world through a lover's eyes,
Your whole life becomes brand new.
And when old age takes off our last disguise,
I would hope to be with you.
I knew when I first had you
That I'd always had you wrong.
And it's high time that I told you
So I'm writing you this song.
Though our "friends" have warned me, I'm still beguiled.
And though I'm unsure, still I'm in your net.
And the hidden child that you shared, and smiled,
Is within me still. I will not forget.
